Maximizing Your Thanksgiving Thinking

With autumn in the air and Thanksgiving upon us, three thoughts often take precedent in our heads during this time of year.

Those are: Cooking, Eating, and Giving Thanks.

With all that in mind, Sturgill Orthodontics of Johnson City, Tennessee and Norton, Southwest Virginia would like to make the following recommendations for how to maximize your Thanksgiving Thinking.

Cooking

When it comes to different types of braces, eating-focused holidays such as Thanksgiving can be a bit of a challenge. You want to enjoy yourself; however, you also want to protect your braces and not waylay your orthodontic treatment.

Given this, Sturgill Orthodontics would like to help with your Thanksgiving cooking endeavors by providing the following solace: in reality there are plenty of things you can feast on this November that won’t disturb your orthodontics.

As long as you avoid foods that are crunchy, hard, and chewy/sticky, you have your bases covered with your braces. So you can still delight in plenty of your favorite traditional Thanksgiving treats, for example, PIES!

Here are just a few great pumpkin-focused pie recipes that Sturgill Orthodontics recommends you try cooking for your upcoming holiday feast:

Eating

One of the most fun parts of Thanksgiving is stuffing your face with delicious food. As a result, during November many people tend to squeeze in a little extra exercise either in anticipation of the holiday, or after the fact.

If you’re looking to do the same while simultaneously spending time with your family and friends, check out the tenth annual Johnson City Up & At ‘Em 5k Turkey Trot.

An amazing yearly event in Johnson City, TN, Orthodontics Associates is always proud to participate. The 5k is put on by The Goose Chase, and will be held this Thanksgiving Day (November 26, 2015) at 8:30 a.m.

Beginning in the Legion Street & Recreation Area and ending in Cardinal Park, it is a fun-filled, classic Johnson City, TN event that allows you to spend time with loved ones while prepping for the big day of eating ahead.

Giving Thanks

The team at Sturgill Orthodontics—like its many wonderful patients—is grateful for a lot. As orthodontic specialists, one thing we are always thankful for is a straight and beautiful smile.

The joy and confidence that a smile straightened through orthodontic treatment brings is something truly special. And we know that our patients feel the same way once they’ve achieved theirs.

As such, this November we would like to remind you about the retention phase of your orthodontic treatment. For the best way to give thanks for your brand new, beautiful smile this Thanksgiving is by protecting it from shifting back into place.

Once your braces are removed, your teeth will naturally want to return to their former positions. To prevent this, your orthodontist prescribes you a retainer to keep teeth in place until they are more settled into their new alignment. By wearing your retainer, you are thereby securing a future of fabulous smiles—something truly worth being grateful for.

All in All…

The entire team at Sturgill Orthodontics would like to wish you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving. May your loved ones be close, your day be bright, and your pants be lined with elastic.
