Your Johnson City Orthodontist
Dr. Jeremiah Sturgill grew up in the small town of Big Stone Gap in southwestern Virginia. He knew he wanted to be an orthodontist as a teenager. After seeing how much braces changed his smile, he was inspired to help others achieve similar success through orthodontic treatment. He kicked off his academic journey by attending King University in Bristol, Tennessee on an academic scholarship. He graduated with honors and earned dual degrees in biology and business administration.
After college, Dr. Sturgill went to dental school at Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, located just outside of Phoenix. Again, he opted for the dual major route getting his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees. Dr. Sturgill completed the Postgraduate Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedics Program and graduated with a specialty certificate in orthodontics and a doctorate in health education (DHEd). He was also chosen to participate in implant osseointegration study at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He wrapped up his training by serving as chief resident for his program and completing rotations at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center – Barrow Neurological Institute Cleft and Craniofacial Center. Phew! That was a lot of schooling!
After undergoing the rigorous process of getting board certified, which involved hundreds of additional hours of preparation to show he was able to provide the highest level of patient care, Dr. Sturgill earned the distinction of becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. This honor is bestowed on only 40% of practicing orthodontists.
Johnson City Braces
Traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. They’re made out of metal or ceramic brackets that are attached to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics. These brackets, wires, and bands work together to apply the gentle pressure that will gradually move the teeth into the positions we want them to be in if you have regular adjustments with our doctors.
Johnson City braces are an excellent choice for correcting complex tooth issues. Because they can sometimes work faster at aligning teeth and closing gaps than other treatments might, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced. Braces don’t need some of the more complex technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, making Norton braces a cost-effective orthodontic option.
Johnson City Invisalign
Invisalign is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists and is the top alternative to traditional braces. Instead of brackets and bands, Johnson City Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth.
Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and customized to fit snugly over your teeth. In order to keep your teeth moving in the direction you want them to, you’ll generally need to switch your invisible trays out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series. The Invisalign system can only work if the recommended guidelines are followed exactly! Aligners should be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment. If patients neglect to wear the aligners as directed, it can impede the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.
Invisalign is at its most efficient when correcting many of the most common orthodontic issues. For some complex cases, Invisalign may not be a good option. A free consultation with Sturgill Orthodontics will allow us to determine your Invisalign eligibility.
